IEEEXtreme is a global competition in which teams of IEEE student members solve a set of programming problems over 24 hours under the supervision of an IEEE member acting as a proctor.

🗓 Competition date: October 31, 2026

⏰ The competition starts at 00:00 UTC on October 31 and ends at 23:59:59 UTC. In Astana time, it will run from 5:00 AM on October 31 to 4:59 AM on November 1.

What will participants do?

Teams will solve algorithmic problems on the CS Academy platform using any supported programming language.

Problems may range from easy and medium to difficult and extremely challenging. This allows teams of all experience levels to participate and choose the order in which they solve the problems.

📈 How are points awarded?

A complete solution receives 30 points, with up to 70 additional points awarded depending on the problem’s difficulty. The fewer teams that solve a problem, the more points it is worth. Partial points may also be awarded for solutions that pass only some of the tests.

🤖 Can artificial intelligence be used?

AI tools may be used for guidance during the competition. However, directly copying and submitting AI-generated code is considered plagiarism and may result in disqualification.

Any online sources used must be acknowledged in the code comments.

🎉 Prizes

🥇 1st place: A trip to any IEEE conference worldwide. Airfare, the conference registration fee, and three nights of hotel accommodation will be covered for each team member, up to USD 10,000 per team.

🥈 2nd place: USD 400 for each team member.

🥉 3rd place: USD 300 for each team member.

🏅 Teams ranked 4th–20th worldwide, as well as the top three teams in each IEEE region, will receive official IEEEXtreme merchandise.

📜 All members of teams that score at least one point will receive certificates of participation.

How can you participate?

  1. Become an IEEE student member. All team members must be IEEE student or graduate student members. An IEEE membership number is required during registration, and every participant must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Form a team. A team may consist of one to three participants, with no more than two graduate students.
  3. Find a proctor. The proctor must be an IEEE member with a membership grade higher than Student Member—for example, a faculty member or an IEEE Young Professional. Proctoring may be conducted remotely through Google Meet, Zoom, or a similar platform. The proctor must confirm the team’s participation by email. A team without a confirmed proctor may still compete but will not be eligible for prizes or certificates and will not appear in the final rankings.
  4. Register your team at ieeextreme.org. Select your university and choose your proctor from the available list.

🗓 Registration deadline: October 17, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM Astana time (1:00 PM UTC).
