Dr. Didar Yedilkhan, Chair of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, and Dr. Andrii Biloshchytskyi, Treasurer of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, participated in the 2026 IEEE Sections Congress (SC2026), held from 21 to 23 August 2026 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

IEEE Sections Congress is one of IEEE’s major international gatherings of volunteer leaders. The 2026 Congress welcomed more than 1,000 delegates representing 312 IEEE Sections across all 10 IEEE Regions, creating a global platform for exchanging experience, developing leadership skills and shaping the future of IEEE’s activities worldwide.

The programme featured discussions, interactive workshops and networking sessions designed to help IEEE volunteer leaders strengthen their local communities and expand the impact of their initiatives. Participants shared effective practices, explored new models of collaboration and discussed approaches to supporting IEEE members, volunteers, students and young professionals.

The Congress also addressed major global challenges affecting engineering and society, including sustainability, equitable access to technology and the responsible and ethical development of artificial intelligence. These discussions emphasized the important role of IEEE and its international community in advancing technological progress while ensuring that innovation remains inclusive, responsible and beneficial to society.

Participation in SC2026 provided the IEEE Kazakhstan Section with an opportunity to strengthen connections with IEEE leaders and representatives from Sections around the world. The experience gained during the Congress will contribute to the development of new professional, educational and technical initiatives in Kazakhstan, as well as stronger international cooperation within the global IEEE network.

The IEEE Kazakhstan Section has received the Gold Student Branch Excellence Badge for Sections. The recognition was presented during the 127th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting, held on 20–21 August 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

This achievement reflects the consistent work of IEEE Student Branches in Kazakhstan and recognizes their commitment to active student engagement, timely reporting, effective leadership and the development of strong professional communities at their universities.

IEEE Student Branches provide students with opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills, organize educational and professional events, participate in international IEEE initiatives, and establish connections with researchers, engineers and fellow students around the world. The Gold Badge demonstrates the growing involvement of Kazakhstan’s students in these activities and their contribution to the wider IEEE community.

The 11th International Conference on Automation, Control and Robotics Engineering (CACRE 2026) officially opened on 17 August 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The conference brings together researchers, engineers, industry representatives and professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, present recent research results and discuss emerging developments in automation, control systems and robotics engineering.

CACRE 2026 is co-organized by Nazarbayev University and the Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers (HKSME), with technical sponsorship from the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Dalian Maritime University. The conference is being held in partnership with the IEEE Kazakhstan Section.

The opening ceremony marked the beginning of an international platform dedicated to scientific dialogue, professional networking and the exchange of ideas across the fields of automation, intelligent control and robotics. Through its technical sessions and research presentations, CACRE 2026 provides participants with an opportunity to discuss current challenges, share innovative approaches and explore new possibilities for academic and technological collaboration.

The IEEE Kazakhstan Section was represented at the opening ceremony by Dr. Nurkhat Zhakiyev and Dr. Akzhibek Amirova. Their participation highlighted the Section’s commitment to supporting international scientific cooperation, strengthening Kazakhstan’s presence within the global IEEE community and contributing to the development of advanced engineering and technological research in the country.

Holding CACRE 2026 in Astana is an important opportunity to connect Kazakhstan’s academic and professional community with leading international researchers and institutions. It also reinforces the country’s growing role as a regional platform for collaboration in engineering, artificial intelligence, automation and robotics.

Ms. Aidana Zhalgas, Counselor of the IEEE Astana IT University Student Branch and PhD Candidate in Computer Science, represented the IEEE Kazakhstan Section at the IEEE Region 8 Student and Young Professional Congress (SYP Congress), held in Kraków, Poland, from 20 to 24 July.

As one of the key international gatherings within IEEE Region 8, the congress brought together students, researchers, and young professionals from Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. The programme provided a platform for professional development, knowledge exchange, leadership, and the establishment of new academic and professional connections across the IEEE community.

Throughout the congress, Ms. Zhalgas participated in technical sessions, workshops, and professional networking activities, engaging with representatives of IEEE Sections, Student Branches, and Young Professionals communities from across Region 8. These exchanges provided valuable opportunities to share experiences, discuss emerging technological and professional priorities, and explore prospects for future international cooperation.

An important part of the congress was its cultural programme, where Ms. Zhalgas represented Kazakhstan and the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, introducing participants to elements of the country’s culture and traditions. Such engagement contributes to strengthening cross-cultural dialogue and building lasting connections within the international IEEE community.
