Computational Intelligence: Bridging Science and Innovation to Advance Technology
On October 3, the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, in collaboration with Astana IT University, held the session “Computational Intelligence: Bridging Science and Innovation to Advance Technology” as part of AI & Digital Bridge 2026.
The session focused on one of the increasingly important directions in modern technology — the use of computational intelligence to process, analyse, and model complex spatiotemporal data. Such approaches are becoming essential for developing intelligent systems capable of identifying patterns in large datasets, making predictions, supporting informed decisions, and responding to rapidly changing environments.

From research to practical solutions
The session featured eight scientific and innovative projects presented by Rakhymzhan Kazbek, Aigul Adamova, Nursultan Khaimuldin, Nurbolat Amilbek, Alisher Batkuldin, Tolegen Aidynov, Akzhibek Amirova, and Aliya Nugumanova.
The presentations demonstrated how computational intelligence methods can be applied to problems that extend beyond theoretical research. The projects explored approaches related to spatiotemporal data analysis, modelling, monitoring, forecasting, and decision support, highlighting the potential of intelligent technologies to address practical challenges in urban environments, infrastructure, digital systems, and other data-intensive domains.

A key feature of the session was the opportunity to consider these developments not only from an academic perspective, but also through the lens of real-world implementation. The presentations demonstrated the importance of connecting scientific research with the needs of industry, government, and technology-driven sectors.
Multidisciplinary expert evaluation
To provide an objective assessment of the presented projects, the session brought together an expert panel representing different areas of Kazakhstan’s technology ecosystem:
Andrii Biloshchytskyi — Astana IT University
Madi Sarbassov — CTS
Akhmet Tussupov — Palo Alto Networks
Eldar Dyussetayev — Astana City
Zholdasbek Nurmakhanov — National Center of Geodesy and Spatial Information
Baglan Orazbay — Qazpost JSC, the National Postal Operator of Kazakhstan

The multidisciplinary composition of the panel allowed the projects to be considered from several perspectives — scientific value, practical significance, technological feasibility, potential for implementation, scalability, and opportunities for further development and collaboration.
This interaction between researchers and experts from industry, government, technology, and infrastructure sectors was an important part of the session. It provided presenters with an opportunity to receive professional feedback and, at the same time, allowed experts to explore emerging research and innovative approaches that could potentially be developed into practical solutions.
Connecting science, technology, and industry
The session demonstrated the growing importance of computational intelligence and artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan’s research and innovation ecosystem. Bringing together researchers, engineers, technology companies, public-sector representatives, and other stakeholders created a space for discussing not only existing developments, but also possible directions for their further application.
The exchange of ideas highlighted a key principle of modern technological development: strong scientific research becomes more impactful when it is connected with real-world challenges and supported by collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
For the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, the session was also an opportunity to support the visibility of local research and innovation and to create a platform where researchers could present their work to a broader professional community.
We sincerely thank Astana Hub and Aliya Sembayeva for the opportunity to organize the session as part of AI & Digital Bridge 2026. We also extend our appreciation to all speakers, experts, organizers, and participants whose contributions made the session a valuable platform for professional dialogue and knowledge exchange.
The event reinforced the importance of building stronger links between research, industry, government, and the technology community and opened new opportunities for future cooperation in computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, smart-city technologies, and data-driven innovation.
