IEEE Launches Kazakhstan Section in Push to Expand Global Engineering Network

ASTANA, Kazakhstan — IEEE Kazakhstan Section has been officially launched following a series of high-level meetings and an opening ceremony held at Astana IT University during the 2026 IEEE Smart Information Systems and Technologies (IEEE SIST 2026) Conference, marking a significant step in the expansion of the global engineering and technology organization in Central Asia.

The launch was supported by senior representatives from the Government of Kazakhstan, IEEE Region 8 leadership, and Astana IT University. Among the participants were Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, IEEE Region 8 Director Dusanka Boskovic, IEEE Region 8 Secretary Ljupco Karadzinov, and Section Vitality and Development Coordinator Andrejs Romanovs, alongside university leadership and international academic guests.

Officials and IEEE representatives emphasized that the creation of the Kazakhstan Section is aimed at strengthening the country’s integration into global scientific and engineering networks, expanding access to international research collaboration, and increasing participation in IEEE’s technical and professional communities.

IEEE, one of the world’s largest professional associations for the advancement of technology, connects more than 400,000 members globally and is known for its influence in fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and emerging technologies. Through its journals, conferences, and technical societies, the organization plays a central role in shaping global research agendas and professional standards.

Speaking during the event, participants highlighted opportunities for Kazakhstan’s academic and research community to engage more actively with international projects, joint conferences, and knowledge exchange programs. The newly established IEEE Kazakhstan Section is expected to serve as a regional platform for collaboration between universities, industry, and researchers, particularly in areas aligned with digital transformation and innovation policy.

The launch also underscored broader efforts to strengthen ties between academia and industry in Kazakhstan, while supporting young researchers and students through access to global IEEE initiatives, competitions, and educational programs.

Organizers said the establishment of the Section represents a long-term commitment to developing a sustainable scientific ecosystem connected to global standards and practices.

The IEEE Kazakhstan Section is expected to begin full operations immediately, with plans to expand its membership base and initiate new technical and educational activities across the country and the wider Central Asian region.

IEEE Kazakhstan Section Signs Memorandum of Understanding with IEEE Ukraine Section

We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IEEE Kazakhstan Section and IEEE Ukraine Section on 13 May 2026.

This strategic partnership establishes a joint framework for collaboration aimed at strengthening IEEE activities, supporting members in both Sections, and advancing engineering, science, and technology initiatives across the region.

The agreement outlines key areas of cooperation, including:

  • Joint organization of conferences, workshops, and technical events;
  • Academic and professional knowledge exchange between members of both Sections;
  • Development of collaborative initiatives in research and innovation;
  • Strengthening engagement of students, researchers, and industry partners;
  • Coordination of activities to enhance the quality and impact of IEEE programs and conferences.

As part of this initiative, the IEEE Kazakhstan–Ukraine Joint Coordination Committee will be established to facilitate effective collaboration and ensure sustainable development of joint activities between the two Sections.

This MoU reflects a shared commitment to innovation, scientific excellence, and the global IEEE mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE Kazakhstan Section was pleased to host the General Meeting of IEEE Kazakhstan Section Members with the IEEE Region 8 Leadership at Astana IT University in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the role of IEEE in Kazakhstan, opportunities for academic and professional collaboration, and strategic directions for the future development of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section. The discussions focused on the benefits of IEEE for universities and industry communities, current development plans, and future regional initiatives aimed at strengthening the IEEE presence in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

IEEE Kazakhstan Section to Officially Launch During Strategic Meetings with IEEE Region 8 Leadership

The IEEE Kazakhstan Section will officially launch during a series of strategic meetings and ceremonial events to be held at Astana IT University in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 12–13 May 2026.

The events will bring together IEEE Region 8 leadership representatives, government and university officials, researchers, students, and industry partners to discuss the future development of IEEE activities in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

The first event, the General Meeting of IEEE Kazakhstan Section Members with IEEE Region 8 Leadership, will take place on 12 May 2026 at 16:00 at Atameken Space, Astana IT University. The meeting will focus on the strategic priorities and development plans of the newly established IEEE Kazakhstan Section, including opportunities for academic and professional collaboration, member engagement, and future IEEE initiatives in the region.

The second event, the Official Opening Ceremony of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, will be held on 13 May 2026 at 10:00 in the Assembly Hall of Astana IT University within the framework of the 2026 IEEE Smart Information Systems and Technologies (IEEE SIST 2026) Conference.

The official launch marks an important milestone for the development of the IEEE community in Kazakhstan and reflects the growing interest in strengthening international cooperation in science, engineering, education, and digital technologies across Central Asia.

During the meetings, participants will discuss the role and benefits of IEEE for universities, researchers, students, and industry communities, as well as strategic directions for the future development of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section. The agenda will also include discussions on collaboration opportunities, future conferences and educational activities, and initiatives aimed at strengthening professional and technical communities in the region.

The 18th International Conference on Electronics, Computer and Computation (ICECCO 2026)

The 18th International Conference on Electronics, Computer and Computation (ICECCO 2026) was successfully inaugurated today, marking an important step in promoting research and innovation in electronics and computing. The conference, held on April 10–11, 2026, is organized by Suleyman Demirel University with technical sponsorship from the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, bringing together researchers, academics, and industry professionals from around the world.

The event is led by an experienced organizing team:

The Chair of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, Didar Yedilkhan, attended the 126th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting, held from 27 to 29 March 2026 in Helsinki, Finland.

The Chair of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, Didar Yedilkhan, attended the 126th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting, held from 27 to 29 March 2026 in Helsinki, Finland.

As a newly established section, the 60th in IEEE Region 8, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into IEEE operations, review committee reports, and engage with colleagues from across the region. The agenda covered IEEE governance matters, including committee activities, regional initiatives, policy discussions, and coordination aligned with IEEE’s strategic objectives for the coming year.

The meeting brought together IEEE leadership, past directors, section chairs, and volunteers. The Region 8 leadership warmly welcomed the newly established section and expressed their best wishes for its continued success and development.

The IEEE Kazakhstan Section successfully held its General Meeting with the participation of members and representatives of the IEEE community.

During the meeting, the section’s activity plan was presented, along with information about the benefits of IEEE membership and recent organizational updates.
